OIL PAINTINGS
Painting with oils is exciting. I can create stunning artwork with these pigment rich and creamy paints, and use a variety of techniques from the Old Masters to more contemporary mixed media techniques to create a work of art in oil.
As I prepare for my next painting, I think through what I want the viewer to see, what effects I want to create, and how I plan to leave brushstrokes visible for a more painterly look, which is how I prefer to paint.
I use professional fine artist grade oil paints. My preferred brand is Rembrandt and Winsor & Newton fine oils. I can create and express myself on canvas any number of ways with these wonderful oils, from thin transparent glazes to heavy opaque brush strokes that are visible on the canvas. After the painting has dried, I use Liquitex Varnish spray for an even protection of the painting. I want my paintings to have a shine, but not so heavy of a varnish that they reflect light. Too much glossy varnish can take away from the beauty of a painting simply because the gloss is reflecting the lights in a room, or sunlight coming in a window. My paintings are not "Matte" in their finish, but the Liquitex Varnish spray that I use adds just enough gloss and interest to the final finish on a painting as to make it pop off the canvas.
I have oil paintings for sale, but I also accept commissions.
